Hot DTM
Mercedes DTM touring car driver Gary Paffett celebrates his second win of the
year in the company of members of the 'Hot Banditoz' band. The Oschersleben
race saw Paffett and fellow Mercedes driver Jamie Green pit simultaneously with
Paffett's crew working quicker allowing Paffett to take the lead when they were
back on track. Former Grand prix star Jean Alesi finished down the field and
Mika Hakkinen emerged unscathed from a crash. |

Nitro
racer
If your name is not Alesi or Paffett or your racing career has passed you by
then worry no more, as Tamiya has launched the next best thing. Their C-Class
DTM is an electric or nitro-powered 1/10th scale, high-performance radio
controlled version of the successor to the championship conquering CLK. Tamiya
engineers spent two weeks with Mercedes motorsport to ensure a high standard of
detail and accuracy. In standard form the C class DTM can reach speeds of up to
28mph in electric form and 40mph in nitro-powered format. Tamiya tuning parts,
such as performance motors and suspension, are also available from Tamiya
stockists for increased speed and handling. |

Neck-Pro
restraints
With the new NECK-PRO head restraints, Mercedes is making a further
contribution to driver & passenger safety. The crash responsive restraints
are now standard in the C-Class, CLK, CLS and E-Class. If the sensor detects a
severe rear-end collision, it releases springs inside the head restraint,
causing it to move. This happens in a split-second and provides support for
front-seat occupants during the early stage of an accident. Following
deployment, the head restraints can be released and re-set using a special tool
provided with the car, avoiding a replacement cost. |

Now playing
in a Mercedes near you
Mercedes is the first car manufacturer to enable full integration of the iPod
in its passenger cars. The user-friendly system was recently introduced for the
new B-Class, and will shortly be available for the A, C, E, CLK, CLS and SLK
models from July and for the new R-Class later in the year. The iPod Interface
Kit is easy to use: the driver navigates through the iPod's menus and selects
items such as 'Playlist', 'Artist', or 'Album' using the buttons on the
multifunction steering wheel. Volume is controlled in the same way. The central
display on the dashboard indicates the song title and provides details about
the files saved on the MP3 player, ensuring that the driver's attention is not
diverted from the road. |
