Latest DTM Machine
Gary Paffett pronounced himself delighted
with the 2005 Mercedes C-Class DTM after
testing at Estoril in Portugal. Mercedes’
four-times champion, Bernd Schneider,
shared the car with Briton Paffett, who was
runner-up last year. Although visibly similar
to last year’s machine, Paffett believes the
new C-Class has the potential to topple
Audi, last year’s champion manufacturer.
“The new car was pretty quick right from the
start,” said Paffett.
“We were please with how close it was to
the qualifying pace from last year’s Estoril
race. I feel it addresses some of the areas
we felt we needed to improve upon,
especially in the tighter corners.” |

Cold Weather Testing
Customers in cold and snowy conditions are
testing Mercedes’ fuel cell vehicles. Part of
the fuel cell vehicle fleet is equipped to
handle cold weather conditions. Along with
a host of creature comforts is the Electronic
Stability Program (ESP). This system works
with the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) to aid
the driver in maintaining stability on a variety
of road surfaces, including ice and snow. The
English physicist Sir William Grove discovered
the principle of the fuel cell in 1839. A
chemical reaction takes place between
hydrogen and oxygen, in which electrical
energy and heat are released and chemically
pure water is produced. Since a single cell
produces only a small electrical potential,
several cells are connected in series to form a
fuel cell stack. |

Banish Brake Dust
Regular removal of unsightly and potentially
corrosive brake dust on alloy wheels should
become a thing of the past with the introduction
of Kleen Wheels brake dust shields. The time
consuming task of cleaning will no longer be
required, as the easy to install shields will
prevent brake dust build up on the surface and
inner rims of the wheels. Designed as a
permanent fitment inside original equipment
road wheel and manufactured from high-grade
aluminium alloy, they are available for front and
rear application. Manufactured with directional
air vents to aid airflow over the brake discs, their
fitment has a positive effect on the braking
system in addition to maintaining a smart
appearance. Their fitment does not affect wheel
balance. Kleen Wheel brake dust shields cost
£39.99 per pair or only £59.99 for a complete
car set including delivery and VAT. Products
can be viewed and ordered by the on line web
site at www.kleenwheels.co.uk or by
telephoning 0870 3000 136. |

Become a Marshal
Would you like to get closer to motor sport? You
could become a marshal and help to run events at
motor circuits and on rallies. The Goodwood
Marshals’ Club is centred on historic Goodwood
Motor Circuit in Sussex, which you may have
visited in September for the well-known Revival
Meeting. Other competitive events at Goodwood
are sprints during the summer, and races at
circuits such as Thruxton, Brands Hatch,
Donington and Silverstone. Classic cars take part
in many of these events. The Club operates a
nationally approved training scheme so that
members learn about first aid, fire fighting, dealing
with incidents and accidents, and teamwork,
which in themselves are valuable skills for any
motorist. See the club’s website: www.goodwoodmarshalsclub.co.uk
