Automatic choice
Mercedes-Benz Accessories is launching the 2005 bike season with three new bike models for different types of application. Mercedes is the first automotive manufacturer to produce a really comfortable and safe Automatic Bike equipped with an 8-speed automatic gearshift system and active spring suspension. This range also sees the addition of the new fully spring-loaded, powerful and dynamic Mountain Bike. The Fitness Bike for amateur and leisure riders rounds off the bike range and is available in either a ‘Sport’ or ‘Comfort’ edition, both of which combine individual design with high quality fittings. It is not clear yet whether these bikes will be available in the UK.

No B-class for the United States
The new B-Class won’t be sold in the United States as the company is unable to price the vehicle to make a profit. If the euro weakens against the dollar, Mercedes might review that decision. Joachim Schmidt, executive vice president of sales and marketing, said the car has already been engineered for U.S. sale. "We can decide at any time that we want to bring it," he said. The compact B-Class is a five-door hatchback based on the second-generation A-class. For years, Mercedes has wavered over plans to introduce a car smaller than the C-Class to the United States. As recently as mid-2003, U.S. Mercedes executives said the B-Class was developed at their request. The changes demanded by North America made the car so different from the A-Class that product planners felt it needed to have its own model range. Now that the B class won't be sold in America, Mercedes has no cars for the United States to compete with the BMW 1 series, which is due in 2006.

New Look Jacksons
Work has begun on the transformation of Jacksons in Poole. The £2-million redevelopment of the Holes Bay Road site will create an enlarged showroom for both Mercedes and smart brands and increase workshop capacity. While construction is taking place, Jacksons has relocated its sales and service departments to the adjacent Sterte Avenue West. This readymade facility, situated directly behind Holes Bay Road, already houses a 50-car showroom and an extensive outdoor display area. With parts remaining on the existing site, Tom Scott, Jacksons' Managing Director, said it would be very much "business as usual" during the redevelopment, which will take six months to complete.

Museum Countdown
Over a year in advance of the opening of the new Mercedes- Benz Museum, the move has already begun. The starting shot for the minutely planned restoration and relocation programme ‘The Countdown is on!’ sounded with the removal of record-holding cars and aircraft engines from the current museum. At the same time, a previously unseen special exhibition on the legendary C 111 vehicles has been installed, a substitute programme that is sure to impress visitors. Without affecting normal museum operations, exhibits will be regularly removed from the museum from now on. They will be replaced with unique pieces and rarities from the company's own extensive collection, many of which have never been on display before.
